MAKING DREAMS COME TRUE
The Peter Spann of ten years ago is not the Peter Spann of today.
I’m still a Business Coach and have many successful clients.
People love learning how to invest in Property with me and they are doing well.
I coach people how to overcome their fear of public speaking and deliver powerful presentations that get standing ovations and change people’s lives.
Plus I’m still an investor, writer and close friend.
But I am also starting on a new career as Peter Spann – Film Maker.
And that’s incredibly exciting for me.
I was always creative and expressed myself mostly through writing. I won numerous writing competitions when I was young and had my work published in newspapers and magazines. A little later in life Bruce Dawe, one of Australia’s best known poets gave me a High Distinction for Literature and told me that I should make writing my profession.
Bryce Courtenay, one of Australia’s most loved authors said, “Peter Spann, you sure can write!”.
I wrote a number of plays and had one published for schools and saw it performed all across the country. I Directed a number of Theatre productions.
But I always wanted to make movies. When I was young I had a bet with my father that if I got great grades in a particular subject I could get a movie camera for Christmas.
He forgot the bet, I got the grades and went ahead and bought the camera and charged it to his account. It was awesome. Super 8mm WITH sound. It made great movies and everything was good until he got the account with $900 charged to it (in 1980 that was a LOT of money!). I think that was the beginning of the end!
I was accepted into film school but at the last minute my father talked me out of it and I changed my degree to Behavioural Science.
And so began my long walk in the wilderness. I got a job as a copywriter and was very good. That led me to marketing and through a convoluted path financial services where I performed on stage, visited the set of every commercial we made and lived vicariously that way.
A new life for Peter Spann
After my mother died I found myself cleaning up her house and discovered all those clippings, articles, prizes and so on from my early creative life.
It caused me to make a huge decision.
To go back to film school.
And just in time too. In 2016 I suffered a series of health issues which almost ended me but I persisted with my studies and graduated from AFTRS with a Graduate Diploma of Directing.
So now a new life begins for Peter Spann.
But my passion is film and I can assure you, with what little life I have left, that where I will be focusing the majority of my attention.
Thank you for stopping by.
